Enchased, engraved, and gilt cast silver and common metal, cut Bohemian garnets. Symbols of the four evangelists, a cross, and ΑΩΧΡ in circular medallions on the foot; dedication on the inside edge of the foot: DER KAPELLE DES WAISENHAUSES IN SCHLACKENWERTH GEWIDMET VOM WEIBISCHOF [sic] Dr. W. FRIND 2. DEZEMBER 1913.

Antonín Viktor Barvitius’s design for the Christian Academy is dated 1891. This chalice was a standard model supplied to the Christian Academy as a liturgical vessel. According to the gift inscription, the chalice was donated to the chapel at the girl’s orphanage in Ostrov nad Ohří (Schlackenwerth) in 1913 by Václav Frind, the provost of the Metropolitan Chapter at St Vitus Cathedral in Prague and an Auxiliary Bishop of Prague. jme
